Flatrock, Inc. Nominated for 2026 Art of Achievement Business Impact Award

Flatrock, Inc. Nominated for 2026 Art of Achievement Award
Flatrock, Inc. is proud to announce that the Flint-based adult foster care organization has been nominated for the 2026 Business Impact Award at the Art of Achievement Awards, presented by the Flint & Genesee Group.
The Business Impact Award recognizes a company with 50 or more employees that is making a positive impact in Flint and Genesee County. For Flatrock, the nomination is a meaningful recognition of the organization’s commitment to its employees, the individuals it serves, and the communities it has proudly called home for decades.
Even more meaningful, the nomination came directly from a new Flatrock employee.
Recognizing Flatrock's Impact in Flint and Genesee County
In their nomination, the employee highlighted Flatrock’s role as both a major local employer and a provider of homes and support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Flatrock employs more than 1,000 people throughout Flint, Genesee County, and surrounding communities in a variety of roles. Direct Care Workers (DCWs) make up a significant part of that workforce, providing hands-on support and helping the individuals Flatrock serves live as independently and meaningfully as possible.
Because working in adult foster care comes with important responsibilities, Flatrock places a strong emphasis on employee preparation and training. New employees receive intensive training designed to help them understand their roles and provide safe, respectful, person-centered care.
For Flatrock, being an employer is about more than filling positions. It is about providing opportunities for people to build careers while making a difference in the lives of others.
Building Homes and Inclusive Communities
At the heart of Flatrock’s mission are the individuals who call its homes their own.
Flatrock provides residential services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with homes located throughout Genesee County and surrounding communities. By living in residential neighborhoods, the individuals Flatrock serves have opportunities to participate in everyday community life while receiving the support they need.
Everyone deserves a safe place to call home, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to have opportunities to participate in their community.
That belief guides the work of Flatrock employees every day.
From Bingo and Karaoke to BBQs and Spa Days, Flatrock’s activities are designed to provide opportunities for residents to have fun, build relationships, explore their interests, and enjoy meaningful experiences.
These moments may seem simple, but they are an important part of creating homes where people feel valued, supported, and included.
A Community of Employees Who Care
The Business Impact Award nomination also recognized the dedication of Flatrock’s employees.
The job of a Direct Care Worker can be challenging, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Every day, Flatrock employees have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life (often through the small acts of kindness, patience, encouragement, and support that make a house feel like home).
Flatrock is grateful for the many employees who have dedicated years of their lives to serving others. That continued connection is a reflection of the people who make Flatrock what it is.
Thank You, Flint and Genesee County
Being nominated for the 2026 Business Impact Award is an honor, but Flatrock recognizes that its impact is made possible by the people who make up the communities it serves.
To our employees: thank you for the compassion, dedication, and hard work you bring to Flatrock every day.
To the individuals we serve and their families: thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives.
And to our neighbors throughout Flint, Genesee County, and the surrounding communities: thank you for welcoming Flatrock into your neighborhoods and allowing us the opportunity to serve.
We are proud to be part of the Flint and Genesee County community and grateful for the opportunity to provide employment, support for our clients, and contribute to the communities we call home.
Whether or not we take home the award, this nomination is something we will celebrate because it represents what matters most to us: the people who make Flatrock a community.
We are honored to be nominated for the 2026 Art of Achievement Business Impact Award, and we look forward to continuing our work to make a positive difference one employee, one individual, and one community at a time.
