Where is this behavior coming from?

Almost everyone has displayed bad behavior at one time or another.

Behavioral disorders, however, are more serious. According to psychiatry.org. they are a group of disorders that are linked to difficulties controlling aggressive behaviors, self-control and/or impulses.

These behaviors are usually considered threatening to normal society. Individuals with these behaviors can experience serious issues regarding their quality of life, including the inability to interact with others, hold a job or keep to a schedule. When we witness behavioral problems, it may be difficult to understand that the person who is exhibiting these behaviors wants nothing more than to change their reactions, as it disrupts their life in many ways.

Some disorders that manifest themselves in behavioral issues have not been studied closely and the root causes have not been explored thoroughly.

Some of the disorders that cause behavioral problems include:

  • Oppositional defiant disorder
  • Intermittent explosive disorder
  • Conduct disorder
  • Pyromania
  • Kleptomania
  • Other specified disruptive, impulse-control and conduct disorder
  • Unspecified disruptive, impulse-control and conduct disorder

At Flatrock, many of our residents exhibit behavioral problems and our staff is trained to identify disorders and develop appropriate treatment plans, so our residents can reach their full potential and enhance their quality of life.
